INSTRUCTIONS TO THE AUTHORS

Scope and policies

Stomatos publishes original articles (experimental research), literature reviews and case reports in the field of dentistry and related fields. Literature review articles will be accepted exceptionally, based on the importance of the subject described.

Authors submitting articles to Stomatos should state, in a cover letter, that the material has not been published before (in print or electronically) and is not under consideration by any other journal at the moment.

The contents of articles published in Stomatos are the sole responsibility of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the journal’s editorial boards and committees.

All articles involving humans and animals should have been approved by the relevant Research Ethics Committee; such approval should be mentioned in the text. In addition, research involving humans should be in accordance with Resolution 196/96 of the Brazilian National Health Council or equivalent, and should provide information on the availability of written consent provided by the patient.

All articles submitted to Stomatos should be written in English. Accepted articles will be revised for clarity and style; revision costs will be the responsibility of the authors. Authors submitting articles to Stomatos should be aware of this mandatory condition.

All articles submitted to Stomatos are submitted to peer review. The final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of each article lies with the editors and will be based on the considerations made by the Editorial Board and reviewers.

REVIEW AND PUBLICATION PROCESS

Articles submitted to Stomatos are initially checked for compliance with the present instructions. Articles that do not adhere to these guidelines will be returned to authors for adjustment. Once the article is considered to be adequately formatted, it will be sent to two external reviewers for evaluation (peer review process) according to the following criteria: originality, clinical and/or scientific relevance, methodology employed and analysis of results. The peer review process is blind (authors’ names are not disclosed).

Whenever conflictive comments/decisions are received from the two reviewers, the editor will make the final decision. All correspondence

between editor and authors is made via email, including the final comments or decision of the journal’s editorial board (accepted, rejected or revisions needed).

Articles requiring revisions will be returned to the corresponding author for amendment and resubmission within 45 days. Articles resubmitted after this deadline will be treated as new submissions.
