MAIA, Emilanir Gomes et al. Oral health status of workers attended to at the Nucleus of Occupational Health in Campina Grande-PB. Arq. Odontol. []. 2012, 48, 1, pp. 32-39. ISSN 1516-0939.

Aim: To evaluate the oral health of workers attended to at the Center for Occupational Health in Campina Grande, Paraíba, Brazil. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out using a probabilistic sample consisting of 341 individuals from both genders, from 35 to 44 years of age. The survey was conducted by means of a clinical record, considering the socio-demographic and clinical aspects of oral health conditions (DMF-T and CPI indices) as well as the use and need for dental prostheses. The examination was carried out by a single examiner. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), version 13, and the results were presented using descriptive statistics. Results: The study identified a predominance of males (91.8%), within an age group of 35 to 37 years of age (51.6%). The mean DMF-T was 15.5%, showing a prevalence in the decayed teeth component (9.7%). The prevalence of gingival bleeding, dental calculus, and deep periodontal pockets were 9.7%, 34%, and 10%, respectively. Of those examined, 80.1% required some form of prosthesis. Regarding the use of prosthesis, 31.7% reported using a maxillary, while 4.4% reported using a mandibular prosthesis. Conclusion: Under these circumstances, it is of utmost importance to develop oral health programs for adults, in an attempt to reduce damages and prevent the tendency of tooth loss.
