SILVA, Rafael David Reco da; AMARAL, Regiane Cristina do  e  SOUSA, Maria da Luz Rosário de. Association between individual and familial risk of the caries to prioritize attendances. Rev. Assoc. Paul. Cir. Dent. [online]. 2013, vol.67, n.2, pp. 141-145. ISSN 0004-5276.

Oral health must be evaluated within a larger context, because problems affecting it are multicausal. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between individual caries risk and familial risk of the disease in children in Piracicaba - SP. Methods: In 2010 an epidemiological survey was conducted (by dentists in the Units Family Health FHS) with children from 1st to 5th grades( 5 to 10 years) who attended public schools in Piracicaba, located near the respective FHS. For individual caries risk, these children were examined and classified according to caries risk criteria (Ministry of Health of São Paulo) and familial risk (record A - ISBA - Information System of Basic Attention of these students' families). Thus, data from the same child were compared, in order to look for possible relationships between the family and individual risk for disease in each child. Results: The relationship between familial high-risk and individual high-risk was found in 83.3% of the children. Conclusion: In this study therewas a relationship between the family and individual risk for dental caries, indicating a possibilityof practical use to prioritize dental care in public health. Clinical Relevance: A new approach to evaluating oral health to prioritize dental care in public health dentistry. Clinical application: Prioritize care according to risk.
