SILVA, Caroline Martins e et al. Study of self-etching adhesive applied to sound and artificially caries-affected dentin. Rev. Assoc. Paul. Cir. Dent. [online]. 2013, vol.67, n.3, pp. 194-197. ISSN 0004-5276.
The most convenient substrate to test the bonding performance of dental adhesives in laboratory studies is sound dentine. However, this standard laboratory dentine differs from the kind of dentine that clinically remains after carious tissue was removed. This study aimed to evaluate the adhesion of self-etching system used on sound dentin and caries-affected dentin artificially produced by microbiological method. Ten non-carious molars were submitted to caries induction by artificially microbiological method on half of occlusal dentin surface. After caries induction the adhesive system Clearfil SE Bond was applied to sound and caries-affected dentin portions. Two cylinders of microfill composite were made in each portion on the two evaluated substrates. The microshear mechanical test was performed and the values in MPa were evaluated by t test for paired samples (α=5%). No statistically significant difference was demonstrated between the two experimental groups analyzed (p = 0.0706). It can be concluded that the self-etching adhesive system used performed equally effective when used in sound and caries-affected dentin.
