Abstract

ZABLEH, María Emma  and  GAVIRIA, Diana María. Identification of rotational growth group according to Petrovic-lavergne in children of Medellin city, Colombia. Rev. Assoc. Paul. Cir. Dent. [online]. 2016, vol.70, n.3, pp. 260-266. ISSN 0004-5276.

Understanding the mechanisms of craniofacial growth in each individual is a prerequisite for the treatment of malocclusions requirement. Aim: To identify rotational growth groups according Petrovic and Lavergne and describe a profile of growth potential in the studied sample. M and M: Skull Laterals Radiographs were taken and analyzed in 303 children between 9 and 12 years in the city of Medellin (Colombia). Results: Lavergne and Petrovic cephalometric analysis revealed that the most frequent Rotational Group is P1NOB in the studied sample, followed by the groups, P2DOB, P2DN, R2DN. The four predominant groups correspond to over half of the study population (57.1%) with growth potential located between categories 2,1 and 3; of the entire sample, most (70.4%) had similar potential; younger patients (9 years) had a lower growth potential. Conclusion: Information such as speed and the percentage of craniofacial growth and maturity levels of an individual are fundamental to determine the effectiveness of the changes made through the appliance and predict future growth.
