Objective: the premise of the present research was to analyze the knowledge of diabetes accompanied by HIPERDIA in the city of Anápolis-GO regarding the bilateral relationship between diabetes mellitus and periodontal diseases, and to verify the health assistance offered to these patients. Materials and Methods: a questionnaire with 16 questions was applied in the period from January 2016 to June 2016. The patient sample was obtained by carrying out a sample calculation with the level of confidence of 95% and with a 5% error margin, excluding the percentage of total edentulous patients in the Midwest region in the elderly age group. Descriptive statistics (frequencies) and inferential statistics were held using comparison testing of groups (Fischer's exact test and the Kruskall-Wallis test complemented by the Mann-Whitney test). Results: most of the sample was composed of women aged between 22 and 61 years. A significant number of patients didn't have knowledge of periodontal diseases or the bilateral relationship between these diseases and diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: the patients have little knowledge of the two-way relationship and the majority has no regular monitoring of your oral health by the dentist.
