Endodontic therapy in the deciduous teeth was analyzed in 3,358 medical records of children treated at the Clínica de Odontopediatria of the Faculdade de Odontologia of the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) for the period fron 1990 to 2010. Data from this retrospective study were tabulated in SPSS 16.0, and the medical profile was analyzed by decade (P1 = 1990-2000; P2 = 2001-2010) using the x² test. The children’s mean age was 4.5 ± 1.4 years for the first decade and 5.5 ± 2.1 years for the second decade. A major reason for treatment remains the presence of extensive caries (79.9%). For the filling of the conduits in the first period, the paste used was proposed by Guedes-Pinto (76.5%), and in the second period, zinc oxide and eugenol paste was used (54.0%). We concluded that there was no significant change in the protocol of pulpectomy performed at the Departamento de Odontopediatria of the Faculdade de Odontologia of UFRJ, although we had observed small variations in the techniques used in relation to the filling material.
