DOMINGOS, RAFAEL GOLGHETTO et al. Comparative study of orthodontic mini-implant immediate and delayed activation. RPG, Rev. pós-grad. [online]. 2010, vol.17, n.2, pp. 57-62. ISSN 0104-5695.

Introduction: The orthodontic anchorage is one of the main factors to achieve satisfactory results during dental movement. Unfortunately, the anchorage loosening may occur, which may decrease the success of the treatment. This problem can be avoided with a stable anchorage afforded by mini-implants. Objectives: To evaluate two kinds of orthodontic mini-implants activation: immediate or six weeks after installation (delayed activation). Material and methods: 60 mini-implants measuring 1.6 mm in diameter and 9 mm in length were divided into 2 groups: G, with 30 mini-implants immediately activated, and G2, with 30 mini-implants submitted to delayed activation. The strength of activation for the two groups was 1.5 N. The mini-implant success was considered according to its viability during orthodontic treatment. Results: In G1 the success rate was 96.6%, and in G2 the success rate was also 96.6%. Conclusion: The immediate activation and the delayed activation of orthodontic mini-implants have the same success rate.
