MUKAI, MARCIO KATSUYOSHI; GALHARDO, LESSANDRA PUCCI MANTELLI  e  GIL, CARLOS. Study of lateral infiltration resistance of four different materials used for posts cementing. RPG, Rev. pós-grad. [online]. 2010, vol.17, n.2, pp. 76-82. ISSN 0104-5695.

Scaling and root planning remove cementum that works as a dentin barrier against penetration of bacteria, toxins and other undesirable products coming from the surface of the tooth. The objective of this study was to evaluate in vitro in treated endodontically teeth, the resistance of different materials to methylene blue. The methylene blue crosses the root dentin after scaling and root planning. We used 48 human uniradicular teeth, treated endodontically. They were prepared and shaped with acrylic resin in order to receive pins. Through casting, an intraradicular metallic retainers was obtained. The teeth were divided into 4 groups with 12 specimens in each, according to the used material in cementing: cement zinc (SS White), Panavia F (Kuraray); Rely X U100 (3M) and Rely X Luting 2 (3M). We delimited an area in the proximal surface of the root and this area was subjected to 40 strokes of 5-6 Gracey curette. Except on the instrumented region, the tooth was externally sealed and exposed to a 1% methylene blue solution and pH 7.2 during 48 hours. The samples were scraped on the long axis until the largest pin diameter. The impregnated area with the dye were scanned and measured with the Imagelab® program. In the Kruskal-Wallis test there were significant differences between groups (p≤0.05). The Rely X U 100 (3M) was more effective in sealing the canal at cervical and apical thirds and Panavia F (Kuraray) in the middle third. The conclusion was that between resin cements there were no differences in the thirds, cervical and medium but in the apical third the Rely XU 100 (3M) had shown the best result.
