GODINHO, Cláudia Jorge; GRIPPI, Marcela Fellet  e  COSTA, Leonardo César. Clinical evaluation of the use of two new toothpastes in the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity. RPG, Rev. pós-grad. [online]. 2011, vol.18, n.2, pp. 72-78. ISSN 0104-5695.

The aim of this study was to clinically evaluate the effectiveness of two new toothpastes to treat symptoms caused by dentin hypersensitivity. Eighty-six teeth with non carious cervical lesions in 29 patients of both sexes were evaluated. Patients were divided into two groups: G1 - (n = 42) Colgate® Sensitive Pro-Relief; G2 - (n = 44) Sensodyne® Rapid Relief. The assessment method used to quantify the sensitivity was the evaporative test using the triple syringe and the pain scores were recorded by visual analogue scale (VAS) before and immediately after topical toothpaste application. The data were analyzed using paired and independent Student’s t-test. The results were significant (p < 0.001) in mean pain reduction after the toothpaste application in both groups. There were no statistically significant differences between G1 and G2. It can be concluded from this study that the two new toothpastes evaluated promoted an instant relief of dentin hypersensitivity and may be indicated for the treatment of this condition.
