PIETROBON, Louise    REGIS FILHO, Gilsée Ivan. Diseases of occupational character in surgeons-dentists: a case study on cifoescoliosi. RFO UPF []. 2010, 15, 2, pp. 111-118. ISSN 1413-4012.

Dentistry practice is among the professions which are more exposed to diseases of occupational aspects, and the surgeon dentists are the first to be away from work due to temporary or permanent inability to perform the job. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to verify the tendency to the surgeon-dentists' kipho-escolioptic posture in public health services. A quantitative and exploratory research was accomplished, where it was classified as a typically field research, also characterized as a case study, aiming at promoting the identification of the tendency to body postural deviation and its relationship with the socio-sanitary and epidemiological profile of the professionals who work at the municipal secretary basic units. METHODS: A questionnaire among the surgeon-dentists and an examination as for body postural analysis, by using a simetrograph, was achieved. RESULTS: The statistical associations of the relationship among socio-sanitary and epidemiological profiles and the body posture analysis showed the existence of an association between the surgeon-dentist profession and the body posture deviations, especially kyphosis, escoliosis and/or both - kyphoescoliosis - and the neck rectification. CONCLUSIONS: The development of the deviations occurs, significantly, with age increase, daily working periods, time of professional work in the area and the individual gender.
