Resumo

The combination syndrome is observed in patients who uses upper complete denture and bottom removable partial denture with distal extension. This syndrome has as main features: bone resorption of the anterior region of the upper edge; extrusion previous lower natural teeth, increasing the tuberosities, bone resorption from the posterior region of the arc than on the basis of the partial removable prosthesis and papillary hyperplasia of the mucosa of the palate hard. Despite having been cited in the literature since 1972 and there are alternatives for treatment and proper impression technique that may encourage patients with this syndrome, the applicability of these techniques has not been universal in clinical practice. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the applicability and knowledge that professionals in the state of Rio Grande do Norte have the respect of the combination syndrome. METHODS: For this a questionnaire with 14 questions was applied to specialists and teachers of the State prosthesis. RESULTS: The results showed that most professionals (54%) know the theory and held consultations in patients with specific criteria. The combination syndrome is present in daily clinical in 75% of professionals evaluated. CONCLUSIONS: It was also observed that 61% of practitioners believe technique of casting a known specific treatment that can benefit, but none knew what technical answer would be more suitable to the case. It was concluded that a large number of professionals that they know about the combination syndrome, however, most do not know all the signs that characterize and not using a molding technique for this specific clinical situation.
