ARRUDA, Fernanda Zanella et al. Peracetic acid influence on flexural strength and roughness of the Procera AllCeramTM ceramic system. RFO UPF [online]. 2010, vol.15, n.3, pp. 288-292. ISSN 1413-4012.
OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the null hypothesis that peracetic acid immersion has no influence on the flexural strength and roughness of ceramic Procera AllCeramTM. METHODS: For each test, two groups were analyzed - control and experimental - according to the immersion in peracetic acid (0.2%) for 5 min. The biaxial flexural strength was evaluated according to the ISO6872-08 specification. The roughness was measured by a surface roughness tester, with Ra parameter, in μm. For this study were prepared 30 specimens for ProceraTM and 30 for AllCeramTM; 20 for testing flexural strength (10 units for the control group and 10 for the test group) and 10 specimens for testing roughness. RESULTS: Mean values ± standard deviation of flexural strength, in MPa, of control and experimental groups of ProceraTM and AllCeramTM were respectively: 441 ± 115, 412 ± 45, 77 ± 3.6 and 87 ± 15. The mean roughness values, in μm, of control and experimental groups were: 0.090 ± 0.014; 0.086 ± 0.009; 0.022 ± 0.004; 0.021 ± 0.006 for ProceraTM and AllCeramTM; respectively. All specimens met the ISO6872-08 criteria required for flexural strength. There was no statistically significant difference between test and control groups for flexural strength and roughness. The null hypothesis was accepted. CONCLUSION: Based on this study design, peracetic acid immersion has no deleterious influence at ProceraTM and AllceramTM properties analyzed.
