STRINI, Paulinne Junqueira Silva Andresen et al. Evaluation of masticatory performance in patients with natural teeth and after rehabilitation with superior, inferior and bimaxillary immediate complete removable prosthesis - case reports. RFO UPF [online]. 2011, vol.16, n.2, pp. 200-205. ISSN 1413-4012.

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the masticatory performance (MP) in patients submitted to immediate complete removable prosthesis. Therefore, it was selected three patients who were submitted to a masticatory performance test with natural teeth (NT) and with superior, inferior and bimaxillary ICRP, keeping the occlusal pattern, soon before the tooth extractions and six months after their installation and relining. A simulator of food "Optocal" was chewed through 40 strokes, visually monitored by a single calibrated examiner. The chewed material was placed in a set of eight granulometry sieves. When screening is completely fulfilled, the content retained in each sieve was ovendried and weighed individually. Results: The results of showed that the patients rehabilitated with bimaxillary and superior PRTI showed similar behavior resulting in reduced masticatory performance. However, the patient with inferior PRTI showed an improvement in the MP. Conclusions: It is concluded that the masticatory performance test may be an important aid in the understanding and evaluation of masticatory function before adopted clinical procedures.
