Objective: The objective of this cross-sectional study was to analyze the literature profile of articles published in the Revista da Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade de Passo Fundo (RFO/UPF). Methods: Copies of the abstracts of all articles published between 1996 and 2010 were analyzed, totaling 463 abstracts. Data were classified according to study design, dental specialty, and Higher Education Institution of the authors by two independent examiners, and the results were expressed as frequency of variables. Results: Regarding dental specialty, dentistry (14.7%) and pediatric dentistry (10.8%) were associated with the largest number of papers. The most common study designs were in vitro laboratory studies (30.5%), cross-sectional studies (22.9%), case reports (19.4%), and literature reviews (19.2%). The leading publishing institution was UNICAMP (15.6%), followed by UPF (12.1%) and PUC/RS (11.9%). Conclusions: Although RFO/UPF has overcome the problems arising from endogeneity, there is lack of studies with potential to generate scientific evidence and to influence clinical procedures.
