REIS, Andréa Candido dos; TORNAVOI, Denise Cremonezzi; RIBEIRO, Rafael Rezende  e  AGNELLI, José Augusto Marcondes. Evaluation of composite resin fracture strength submitted to the artificial aging. RFO UPF [online]. 2011, vol.16, n.3, pp. 294-300. ISSN 1413-4012.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the influence of accelerated artificial aging on the composite resin fracture strength. Methods: The following five commercial brands of resin composites were assessed: Z250™, 4Seasons™, P60™, Z100™ and Charisma™. For each resin, 16 test specimens were obtained and divided into two groups of 8 in which one group was submitted to accelerated aging system for non-metallic UV-C, and the other one was submitted to the analysis of fracture strength 24 hours after they were obtained. Later, the aged specimens were submitted to compression test. The means of the readings fracture strength for each test specimen were submitted to the Kolmogorov- Smirnov test (p > 0.05), Anova and the Tukey test (p < 0.05). Results: The analysis of the factors presented significant differences between the brands of resin composite with regard to compressive (F = 40.31, p < 0.0001). Over the same material before and after the aging process, it was observed that this process did not influence the fracture strength of any of the resin composites (F = 2.82, p = 0,09). Note that there was interaction between the brand factors of the resin composite and aging (F = 3.20, p < 0.004). Conclusions: Irrespective of the type of resin, accelerated artificial aging did not influence fracture strength. However, there was a significant difference between the brands of resin on this property.
