Aim: The objective of this study was to evaluate the dentistry academics' knowledge on the drug prescription, legal implications as well as data on the protocol used in the manufacture of a drug prescription. Methodology: 103 undergraduate students participated. Students who agreed to participate answered a questionnaire which was consisted of 15 objective questions. Results: The results demonstrated that dictionaries of medicinal products are the majority of the students' first choice to obtain knowledge on clinical pharmacology (78.28%). With respect to prescriptions, 91.26% write down and/or print a copy containing the patient's signature. 46.60% are aware of the Law 5.081/1966, however only 35.92% responded that this enables the dentist to prescribe medications for dental use. Conclusion: It was concluded that the undergraduates showed gaps towards knowledge about the clinical, ethical and legal issues involving drugs prescription.
