KUHN-DALL';MAGRO, Alessandra et al. The use of ethanolamine oleate as sclerosing agent in Vascular anomalies of the maxillofacial region: rewiew of literature and case reports. RFO UPF [online]. 2012, vol.17, n.1, pp. 78-85. ISSN 1413-4012.

Objective: The aim of this study is to perform a literature review, as well as clinical cases using 5% ethanolamine oleate (EO) solved in saline solution for hemangiomas and lymphangiomas treatment. Literature review: Hemangiomas and lymphangiomas are the most common patologies of the maxillofacial area. These pathologies are difficult to treat since they show location, size and hemodynamic variations. Treatment modalities proposed in the literature include physical sclerosis by cold or cryotherapy, the use of corticosteriods, lasertherapy, surgical excision and the chemical sclerosis. The chemical sclerosis can be performed with different sclerosingagents, such as 75% glucose, sodium morrhuate and 5% EO. Case report: This paper reports three cases of patients who have vascular lesions. As treatment, the use of EO 5% at a ratio of 1:3 diluted in saline solution was proposed. Consecutive infiltrations were accomplished covering the whole extension of the lesions. Although three clinical cases presented varied in size and as for the local of the lesions, it was decided to keep similar concentration of the substance (1:3) in order to standardize such intervention. The period between applications ranged from 7 to 23 days. Final considerations: According to the literature and the clinical cases presented, the use of 5% EO dissolved in saline solution may be considered as an alternative for the treatment of hemangioma and lymphangiomas. This technique can reduce or even heal the lesions.
