GONCALVES, Vanessa Barreiros et al. Variables associated to the performance of dental surgeons in the health family strategy. RFO UPF [online]. 2012, vol.17, n.2, pp. 201-207. ISSN 1413-4012.

Background: the Family Health Program (FHP) has become in recent years the main strategy to improve the organization of health services in primary care in our country and, since 2000, dental services have been included in FHP to restructure all actions and practices of oral health in primary care. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the variables that impact the performance of professionals in relation to dentistry in the FHP. Methods: a sample of 15 dentists working in oral health teams from FHP of the city of Jequié, BA, participated in this study. The instrument of data collection was a selfapplied questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and exact Fischer test. Results: the majority (86.6%) of dentists reported that clinical care was the main activity among oral health actions, while preventive activities were performed less frequently. The majority of dentists (78.6%) declared dissatisfaction with their salary but 71.4% reported satisfaction in working in oral health teams of the FHP. Conclusion: it was concluded that despite the adversities encountered, the professionals felt pleased to be working in the FHP. It was verified a centralization of activities in the figure of the dentist in their office, which pointed to the need to invest in continuing education for professionals.
