Abstract

Objective: This study aims to report two clinical cases of cherubism in relatives, conducting a literature review and emphasizing on the clinical and imaging aspects essential to the specific diagnosis. Case report 1: a male patient, age 5, taken by his mother to the SOMED Day Hospital clinic for progressive and painless facial augmentation. Clinical examination showed the presence of facial deformity in the jaw, as well as dental malocclusion and changes in the chronology of permanent teeth. An incisional biopsy of the lesion was performed and the patient was referred for treatment at the Department of Stomatology of Unime, where he has been assisted annually. Case report 2: female patient, age 4, sister of patient 1, taken by her mother to the Service after the patient began developing the same facial features of her brother. The physical examination showed the presence of mild facial deformity in the jaw. Based on the family history, and the clinical and imaging characteristics of the patient, the diagnosis of cherubism was established and it was decided for annual case proservation, similar protocol used for patient 1. Final Remarks: The patients of the reported cases were diagnosed based on clinical, imaging, and histopathology examination. The proposed treatment was to monitor the lesion by clinical and imaging examination until involutional process of the bone structures involved.
