SCOLARI, Neimar  e  HEITZ, Claiton. Treatment protocol for orbital fractures. RFO UPF [online]. 2012, vol.17, n.3, pp. 365-369. ISSN 1413-4012.

Objective: To define a treatment protocol for orbital fractures, comparing it to the various forms of treatment existent in current literature. Methods: The proposed protocol was based on clinical experience acquired by a maxillo-facial surgeon in three hospitals in Porto Alegre - RS. We selected the most relevant articles on the subject, discussing different forms of orbital fractures treatment. Results: After clinical and radiographic evaluation, when observing neurologic or ocular lesions, patients should be referred to an ophthalmologist and neurologist, respectively. After the diagnosis of the maxillo-facial surgeon the treatment must be performed according to the orbital anatomical region involved. Conclusion: The setting of a quality protocol for a trauma service is essentially important, since orbital fractures should be diagnosed accurately and quickly, seeking an appropriate treatment to minimize its after-effects.
