MATTOS, Flávio de Freitas; DALSECCO, André Benedito Moura; SILVA, Érika Talita da  e  AUAD, Sheyla Márcia. Profile of the extension activities from the UFMG dental school. Arq. Odontol. [online]. 2011, vol.47, suppl.2, pp. 08-11. ISSN 1516-0939.

In the evolution of its relationship with society, university extension activities have undergone at least four different conceptual moments which have determined their practices. In the UFMG dental School, among the many ongoing extension activities, the oldest was established in 1986. These are now consolidated and include courses, projects, programs, the rendering of services, and events. Their central management is performed by the university's Extension Center (CENEX FO-UFMG). As such, this study sought to describe the profile of the community extension activities of the UFMG Dental School. All data shown here were extracted from the Extension Information System (SIEX) in May 2011. The extension courses offered 716 opportunities for dental students and 194 opportunities for dental professionals enrolled in the courses. A population of 21.481 individuals were treated in 2010. The community extension activities of FO-UFMG varied as regards the type and source of proposal. These activities reflect the deep involvement of the school community, reaching a wide range of population groups, in addition to providing new fields for the teaching-learning process and offering new topics for the production of knowledge.
