Oral health care many times requires specialized surgical care. In this respect, oral surgery is highly regarded amongst dental specialties, with a broader field of work and, consequently, a wider range of benefits offered to patients who require their services. The Extension Project of Oral Surgery and Maxillofacial Traumatology is an activity that attempts to provide its participants with greater knowledge on the main themes of this branch of dentistry, offering them the conditions for training in surgical practices and offering specialized dental care to patients who seek treatment at the Dental School of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). The Extension Project includes 08 undergraduate students, including 2 students from each of the following periods: 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th. Each student receives different responibilities of increasing complexity according to their learning stage within the dental course. This project contains specific characteristics, offering students the possibility to develop a sense of respect, responsibility, and hierarchy. The activites allow participants to acquire experience in conducting oral surgeries as well as additional knowledge regarding the field of knowledge.
