Preventive maintenance has been considered a very important step in dental care, whose main goal is to preserve the oral health of patients and reach early diagnoses of diseases which affect the oral cavity. The extension project, entitled "Health Promotion Program in Pediatric Dentistry", from the School of Dentistry of Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), aims to train professionals who will deal with oral health prevention and promotion in children and adolescents, in addition to offering the community a reference center for follow-up pediatric dental care. In four years, 678 patients hav been treated, 369 of which have been referred for treatment in specialized clinics. During this period, the project proved to be important in maintaining patients' oral health, providing the early diagnosis of oral conditions and continuing care.
