BASTOS, Juliana Vilela    CORTES, Maria Ilma de Souza. Dental Trauma Clinic. Arq. Odontol. []. 2011, 47, 2, pp. 86-90. ISSN 1516-0939.

The Dental Trauma Clinic (DTC) of the School of Dentistry, from the Universidade federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), has been permanent healthcare service since 1986 and has proven to be a pioneering initiative in proposing the comprehensive holistic approach to the dental trauma patient who seeks healthcare services at the UFMG School of Dentistry. Over the years, this service has established itself as a major referral center in this area, although little-known and poorly publisized by the dental community. In 1993, an extension project was established, and the experience accumulated over the years made the organization of the "Dental Trauma" Extension Program at the UFMG School of Dentistry possible in 2004. In addition to its recognized importance as a uniquely organized alternative to the specialized care of trauma victims, the DTC of the UFMG School of Dentistry is also an important center of education, training, and retraining of human resources for the treatment of traumatic injuries of permanent anterior teeth. Featured in this article is the fact that the project can offer undergraduate students the opportunity to deal with dental trauma through a holistic approach as well as the ability to plan patient care by integrating various dental care specialties. Finally, 25 years of uninterrupted work has amassed a large and singular sample that allows for the construction of scientific knowledge in this area by conducting relevant clinical and epidemiological research. The results are available in academic publications and several book chapters, books, theses, dissertations, and monographs.
