ROCHA, Bruno et al. Orthodontic treatment in patients with dental trauma. Arq. Odontol. [online]. 2011, vol.47, suppl.2, pp. 94-96. ISSN 1516-0939.

Dental traumas require immediate aesthetic and functional rehabilitation in such a way as to readjust young patients to their everyday lives. However, the frequency at which these occur and their distribution according to age group and etiology commony make the treatment complex and extend for many years, in turn demanding a multidisciplinary approach which involves a variety of dental specialties. Within this context, orthodontics represents an important stage in the treatment of trauma lesions, as it is involved in the prevention, emergency treatment, and rehabilitation of the trauma patient. The "Interceptive Orthodontic Treat of Dental Trauma Patients" program became an integral part of the "Dental Traumas" extension program at the School of Dentistry from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) in 2005 and is aimed at providing full treatment for dental trauma patients who seek treatment at the UFMG School of Dentistry. The procedures within the project represent an essential step toward developing the asthetics and function of the stomatognatic apparatus. In other words, orthodontics entered the program as a key element within the global process of the rehabilitation of dental trauma patients.
