The "Temporary Prosthesis" extension project, Department of Restorative Dentistry, School of Dentistry from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG)), has been conducted since 2007, at dental care clinic number 1 of this academic unit. The general objective of this project is to provide dental care to patients already being treated in undergraduate courses, and who require prosthetic dental replacements. These, according to the high demand and the time required to be solved, become temporarily resolved, quickly and eficiently, allowing patients to wait for the final solution to the problem. This methodology includes the scheduling of patients referred from various undergraduate courses, together with those who are awaiting an appointment in the disciplines of Restorative Dentistry III and Removable Prosthodontics, and its attendance by students from the 7th and 8th semester of the undergraduate course. This service takes place weekly, on Tuesdays from 6:00pm to 10:00pm, under the supervision of five teachers from the Department in each work shift. The clinical approach includes the planning and implementation of acrylic resin provisional crowns, total and partial provisional removable dentures, and immediate dentures. In conclusion, the obtained data show that this Project is essential to the needs of the users of this health care system, as it provides an improvement in their quality of life, and offers a rich theoretical and practical contribution to UFMG School of Dentistry students.
