BARREIROS, Ivan Doche et al. Five-year survey of the activities of the course in implant prosthodontics from the UFMG School of Dentistry. Arq. Odontol. [online]. 2011, vol.47, suppl.2, pp. 114-118. ISSN 1516-0939.

The lack of one or more dental elements can trigger an imbalance in one's bite, difficulty in mastication, and speech problems, in turn affecting the functionality of the stomatognathic system, in addition to undermining the emotional health of patients and their social relations, which are directly linked to aesthetics. The current work aims to present the methods discussed to the public and other interested academians in an attempt to promote the course and its productivity. The course in implant prosthodontics aims to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge so that they have the capacity and conditions to evaluate the patient, as well as establish, plan, and carry out part of the implant prosthodontics procedures, using prosthetic elements for each case. At the end of the course students will be able to interpret anamnesis data, connecting this with the objective exam to diagnosis, indicate, and interpret pertinent complementary exams, treat or refer patients appropriately, performing implant prosthodontics. From the data presented in this study, an improvement in services rendered within this extension activity over the years. The majority of planned cases were attended to, each year performing more procedures, thus promoting advances in student learning and, consequently, an improvement in the physical and psychological life of patients undergoing treatment.
