Endodontic retreatment is characterized by a second intervention in previously performed treatments. This procedure is regularly performed on teeth that commonly present pathologies associated with its supporting structures. The endodontic treatment of molars and retreatment, extension project, created in 1993, aims to facilitate and expand access to such treatment for the community attended to by the School of Dentistry of Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG). Approximately 15 volunteers are selected primarily from the 8th and 9th semesters of the Dentistry course offered at the UFMG School of Dentistry, of which two grant recipients are selected. In addition to the weekly clinical care, the project also offers special lectures capableof training the volunteer in the preparation of diagnostic planning and the execution of treatments. On average, 60 patients are treated every year. After the proservation of treated cases, a success rate of approximately 80% could be observed, rendering it an effective alternative for cases of endodontic treatment failures. The project's importance lies in aiding the community, as it is the only treatment offered at the dental school. In addition, it acts as a support to other disciplines, allowing for the clinical response to the treatment proposed to the patient. Although primarily aimed at filling a gap in education and the rendering of services in the field of endodontics at the UFMG School of Dentistry, the project is also linked to a larger research project on endodontic infections that are resistant to initial treatment.
