WERLANG, Jean Felipe Garlet; DALFOVO, Ricardo João; NEIVA, Ivana Froede  e  OBICI, Andresa Carla. Curing-light attenuation and depth of cure of composite resins. Arq. Odontol. [online]. 2013, vol.49, n.1, pp. 12-18. ISSN 1516-0939.

Aim: To evaluate the attenuation of curinglight across different thicknesses of composite resins and their depth of cure. Materials and Methods: The materials used included A3 Opallis and Llis with enamel (E) and dentin (D) shades. The curinglight attenuation used circular brass molds (6.0 mm in diameter and 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mm in thickness), which were positioned on the radiometer. The light intensity was measured before and after the placement of the material. The depth of cure was measured according to proceedings described in ISO 4049 (2000). The data were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey´s test (5%). Results: The results showed that the Opallis and Llis resins presented statistically significant differences at all thicknesses. Upon comparing the materials, at 0.5 mm, a statistically significant difference could be identified between Opallis E and D, as well as between Llis E and D. At 1.0 mm, no statistically significant difference could be observed between Opallis E and Llis E, nor between Opallis D and Llis D; at 1.5 mm, only Opallis D and Llis D presented no statistically significant difference. At 2.0 mm a statistically significant difference could be observed between Opallis E and Llis E. No statistically significant difference in the depth of cure could be found between Opallis E and Llis E, nor between Opallis D and Llis D. Conclusion: Greater attenuation of light values were obtained with dentin resins as compared to enamel resins, as well as in higher thicknesses of composite resins. Dentin composite resins showed a lower depth of cure than did enamel composite resins.
