Aim: To compare two oral hygiene indexes used in patients attended to at the health clinic of the Public Oral Health I (SBC I) discipline in the Dentistry course of the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES): Oral Hygiene Index (OHI - modified by to fit the course curriculum) and the Simplified Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S). Materials and Methods: This research, characterized by a descriptive and retrospective study with a quantitative approach, was performed by analyzing the medical records of patients attended to in the health clinic of the SBC I discipline. The data were subjected to statistical analysis, considering a significance level of 5% and a null hypothesis (H0: IHO-S = Greene & Vermillion Modified). Results: No statistically significant difference could be observed between the indexes (p=0.39). Conclusion: No statistically significant difference could be observed in the OHIs applied in the SCB I discipline.
