COSTA, Giselle Cabral da et al. Comprehensiveness, beginning with embracement, in the clinical practices of a Dental School. Arq. Odontol. [online]. 2014, vol.50, n.2, pp. 63-70. ISSN 1516-0939.
Objective: To evaluate the embracement of patients in healthcare practices and the pedagogical design of a dental course. Methods: This study applied a qualitative method, with the participation of students and users of the institution, using semistructured interviews, examined from the point of view of content analysis. Results: The results showed that embracement is related to space availability for users, to the relationships among the team members, as well as to recommendations and counter-recommendations given by users. Embracement in clinical practice shows no solid foundation. Concepts and reflections on the theme have permeated discourses, but the practices have remained mostly conservative and old-fashioned. Conclusion: Embracement as the attribute of the comprehensiveness of care is still a concept under construction, a reflection that has yet to materialize. What can be observed is the coexistence of elements that have not yet been achieved and some that are already in progress. For the practice of embracement, further discussions are necessary within the Dental School, theorizing it and making it a reality in such a way that all divisions within the school will take notice of it.
