Aim: This study aimed to analyze educational procedures cited by professors in teaching plans. Methods: A document study was conducted using data collected between April and May 2015. Thirty teaching plans were randomly selected and analyzed, representing 53.6% of the mandatory classes. The educational components were grouped into individual and interactive procedures based on literature in the field of education. Results: Individual and interactive procedures were cited in 24 plans (80%), with lecture classes and discussions accounting for 96.7% and 53.3% of these plans, respectively. Little diversification was found in the educational procedures traditionally employed in higher education. Conclusion: The little diversity in the methods employed may signify difficulties on the part of professors regarding knowledge on the dynamics of different teaching strategies and learning. The present findings demonstrate that educational planning should be a permanent activity, as it implies the rethinking of educational practices on the part of professors.
