RODRIGUES, Marcus Gustavo Silva et al. Cone-beam computed tomography: formation of the image, indications and selection criteria. Odontol. Clín.-Cient. (Online) [online]. 2010, vol.9, n.2, pp. 115-118. ISSN 1677-3888.

The radiographic techniques are essential assistant of diagnosis inside of the different dentistry specialties. The increase of the use of the examinations clinicians and more modern and accurate techniques is evident, seen the biggest complexity of the carried through dentistry procedures, mainly inside of the surgery and the implantodontology, where great part of the prosthetic whitewashing is, currently, planned and executed on the information gotten bythe images, and the necessity of if searching safer, fast and less invasive treatments. Most of the conventional radiographic techniques offer limited images, a time that complex structures are overlapped and visualized in only two plans. Beyond the overlapping of these images, the occurrence of geometric and volumetric distortions of the investigated anatomical repairs is also frequent. Although the spiral or Fan-beam Computed Tomography offers three-dimensional images without overlapping, expects certain inherent distortion the lesser specificity of the technique and to the process of attainment of images divided in small slices. Differently, in the Cone-beam Computed Tomography, the image is gotten through a single scanning, allowing that the image is reformatted without distortion and with a lesser radiation exposition. In this direction, the present work has the objective to present these two technologies and to revise the process of attainment of the image, as well as its indications, advantages, disadvantages and criteria for lapsing.
