OLIVEIRA, Mário Cezar S. et al. Qualitative evaluation of the surface roughness of a dental porcelain after three different polishing systems. Odontol. Clín.-Cient. (Online) [online]. 2010, vol.9, n.2, pp. 151-154. ISSN 1677-3888.

The aim of this study is to evaluate qualitatively the surface roughness of a porcelain subjected to three different polishing systems. Forty-eight samples were manufactured of porcelain VITAVM®9 (VITA Zahnfabrik), wich surfaces were worn away with diamond burs and divided into three groups: Group 01 was polished with rubber abrasive (Edentulous), felt and folder diamond; Group 02 was polished with rubber abrasive (Shofu), felt and diamond paste; and Group 03 was polished with disk of aluminum oxide (Sof-Lex), felt and folder diamond. Later, the samples were photographed by the scanning electron microscope (SEM), with extensions of 1.000 times and then each surface roughness were analyzed. It was made a comparison between the areas of the samples and was observed the difference in the quantity and quality of the slots of each one. With the limitations of the study, the Shofu system of polishing was considered the best kind of systems that ware tested
