The oral cancer is an important problem of public health in the world. Most of the illness' cases is detected in advanced stage. The precocious diagnosis of the oral cancer favors the biggest possibilities of the illness' cure. The absence of illness' pain, in the initial phase, the lack of preparation of the dentist, the fear and the lack of population's information are factors that can be associates to the delayed diagnosis of the illness. The dentist exerts a primordial paper in the prevention of the oral cancer, mainly when he acts in the levels of primary and secondary prevention, when considering actions that facilitate the recognition of the pertaining individuals to the group of practical risk and carrying through that, they search to diagnosis the injuries precociously suspicion. The objective of this study was to carry through the literature revision on the importance of the dentist in promoting the diagnosis and the prevention of the oral cancer precocious, as well as stimulating educative campaigns, related to the illness and directed the general population.
