The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of socioeconomic and behavioral factors in maternal caries in mothers and children. The study was conducted with 50 mothers accompanied by one of their children aged 3 to 12 years attending the clinic of Pediatric Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry of Pernambuco.. Data were collected by means of a form with their mothers and then clinical examinations of the mother and child to assess the rates of caries. The results indicated the occurrence of caries of 56% for women and 74% for children and maternal indices and children were 11.74, 0.65 and 5.92 respectively. Despite the high incidence of caries, no statistically significant association between socioeconomic variables, variables related to maternal behavioral factors in oral health with the occurrence of caries in children. It was concluded that the oral health status of mothers and children were similar and the disabled.
