Abstract

RIBEIRO, Pedro José Targino et al. MECHANISMS OF ACTION OF THERAPEUTIC RESOURCES AVAILABLE FOR TREATMENT OF CERVICAL DENTINAL HYPERSENSITIVITY. Odontol. Clín.-Cient. (Online) [online]. 2016, vol.15, n.2, pp. 83-90. ISSN 1677-3888.

Knowledge of the causal factors of any pathological condition is essential for a safe and effective treatment. Cervical dentin hypersensitivity (CDH) is a condition that affects much of the population, manifesting as a painful symptomatology in areas with dentinal tubules exposure to the oral environment. Commonly, it is associated with factors such as erosion, abrasion and abfraction, which can act separately or in conjunction. This study aims to review the literature regarding the therapeutic resources currently available for the treatment of CDH. Various forms of treatment for this condition are available, though not all are effective. Some protocols described in the literature, such as the application of fluoride varnishes, calcium phosphate solutions, adhesives, restorative procedures and low intensity laser, has shown effectiveness. It is noteworthy that identification and removal of etiological factors are essential approaches to therapy success in CDH.
