Abstract

The initiation of a professional career, by joining a college, brings great expectations, often making difficult the critical analysis of choice. This study aims to evaluate the main reasons that makes the students choose a profession; the vision and expectations related to the job market; and personal satisfaction with the professional choice by beginners in Dentistry from private institutions in Belo Horizonte city, in 2013. Vocations was noted as a determinant factor in career choice. The average of the salary requirements was R $ 3,500.00 immediately after graduation. The majority part of the students reported desire of working in private office in Belo Horizonte or metropolitan zone. They also related being satisfied with the professional choice. It can be concluded that the majority part of the students reported having a vocation to the course they have chosen; they also related feeling themselves satisfied with the professional choice. However, it can be seen the necessity of clarify for the students subjects associated to the job market.
