ROCHA, Thaiza Gonçalves et al. A multidisciplinary approach on the diagnosis of carotid artery atheromas: a case report. Odontol. Clín.-Cient. (Online) []. 2016, 15, 2, pp. 141-144. ISSN 1677-3888.

The encephalic stroke is one of the highest morbidity and mortality causes around the world, and it is classified as hemorrhagic and thrombo-embolic. The hemorrhagic results from the blood vessels rupture and the thrombo-embolic results from the obtruction of the carotid arteries from ateromatosas plates that, usually, occur in their bifurcation between the C3 and C4 vertebras. Due to its location, it's possible for dentists to identify the calcified atheroma in panoramic radiographs. Therefore, this study presents a report case of a carotid atheroma identified by a dentist. Considering that the consequences of the encephalic stroke are normally irreparables, it is strongly recommended a multidisciplinary approach on the atheroma diagnosis, contribuing for the incidence reduction of this public health severe condition.
