SANGIORGIO, João Paulo Menck; GABRIEL, Mariana; MOREIRA, Fernanda Santos  e  TANAKA, Elisa Emi. Generation Y: motivation for the construction of knowledge. Rev. ABENO [online]. 2011, vol.11, n.2, pp. 14-18. ISSN 1679-5954.

The construction of knowledge concerning health occurs when the individual becomes aware of the practical application of a concept. Unidirectional teaching practices often do not allow this, because they do not motivate the search for the information that will allow the resolution of problems. Students today now have a different profile. They are young adults who belong to Generation Y, and grew up in a society being transformed by technology, and now find themselves in college. These young people do not respond significantly to tradFitional educational models, and require a different teaching strategy that seeks motivation to develop learning, with a more participatory and dynamic form of practice. In this sense, the "Pro-Saúde" (Pro-Health) project was conceived to lend support to redirecting professional health training, and allows different approaches consistent with this generation, establishing actions that encourage the assimilation of critical knowledge for the process of professional training. In view of these concepts, a focused questionnaire was drawn up on Influenza A - epidemic in 2009 - to aid motivation in learning the etiological factors and practices necessary to protect individuals and society and help them cope in a health emergency situation. Right after applying the questionnaires, templates with comments were handed out to provide an on-the-spot explanation. It was observed that the students showed interest in relating their doubts and difficulties with the correct answers, thus driving the teaching motivation. Accordingly, it was found that this strategy, based on a self-evaluation tool, allowed students to progress in knowledge, based on their mistakes.
