Resumo

To evaluate, by direct analysis, the cllnical performance of anterior and posterior composite resin and amalgam restorations, performed in a period of three years between insertion and evaluation, in patients treated by students of the 5th period of Dentistry School at the Federal University of Pernambuco. 146 restorations were examined by two evaluators using the criteria of color matching, marginal discoloration, secondary caries, wear, marginal integrity, superficial corrosion, fracture and postoperative sensitivity. Among the 119 composite resin restorations evaluated, 33,6% received score A for color matching; 48,7% for wear; 58,8% for marginal descoloration; 81,5% for absence of caries; 37,8% for marginal integrity. Among the 27 restorations of amalgam evaluated, 33.3% had received score A for wear; 73.,1% for caries absence and 14,8% for marginal integrity. Besides, 59.3% of the amalgam restorations did not present fractures and 48.1% had not presented superficial corrosion. Regarding to 94,7% of the composite resin restorations and 100% of the amalgam restorations did not presented any relate. The majority of the evaluated restorations presented satisfactory clinical performance for all the analyzed criteria.
