The aim this study to evaluate the clinical signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders among students registered in the course of Dentistry, University Severino Sombra. Was used a questionnaire with 10 questions for a subjective assessment of symptoms and clinical examination performed for an objective assessment of cllnical symptoms. Data were subject to descriptive analysis. The results showed a correlation between emotional factors and temporomandibular disorder. Of the total subjects evaluated 42.2% had a light temporomandibular dysfunction and 18.5% a moderate one. Symptoms were present in 69% of individuals with emottonal commitment. Since the habit of squeezing or grinding teeth appeared in 41.2% of the students and the headache in 32.9%. Regarding the most common clinical signs were the 61.8% in tooth wear and gingival recession in 8.2% of individuals. There was a higher prevalence of signs and symptoms in female subjects. It was concluded that both clinical signs and the symptoms are important for diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular disorders.
