Abstract

ACIOLE, Gilberth Tadeu dos Santos et al. Recurrent odontogenic keratocyst tumor: conservative or radical surgical treatment? a clinical case report. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2010, vol.10, n.1, pp. 43-48. ISSN 1808-5210.

The odontogenic keratocyst is a developmental cyst of the jaws. The aim of this paper is to report the surgical removal of such a lesion. A 20-year-old white female complained of a painless swelling on the right side off her mandible, affecting the ramus, angle and body of the bone, which was diagnosed as an odontogenic keratocyst. The lesion of the lower right molars was surgically removed under general anesthesia. Thirty months later the lesion relapsed and was surgically removed under local anesthesia. The initial diagnosis was confirmed by histopathology. The patient remains under clinical and radiographic follow-up. It is concluded that all the clinical, radiographic and histopathological findings must be taken into account when diagnosing this tumor, bearing in mind the high rate of relapse.
