PORTO, Gabriela Granja e VASCONCELOS, Belmiro Cavalcanti do Egito. Complication in the treatment of recurrent displacement of the temporomandibular joint: a case report. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2010, vol.10, n.1, pp. 63-66. ISSN 1808-5210.
Temporomandibular joint displacement occurs when the condyle moves beyond the articular eminence, with complete separation of the joint surfaces and fixation in that position, and it is considered chronic when its occurs repeatedly. There are different ways of treating this pathosis, such as the use of miniplates on the articular eminence in order to limit mandibular movement, thereby preventing luxation. This form of treatment, however, may have some disadvantages, such as miniplate fracture. This being so, the present article reports a case of this complication.
