Abstract

SILVA, Luciana Andrade Gama Da et al. Morphological analysis of oral HPV lesions. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2010, vol.10, n.1, pp. 81-88. ISSN 1808-5210.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate oral HPV lesions detected by the presence of koilocytosis in the epithelium layers using morphological analysis. On hundred and four species stained with Hematoxilin-Eosin were studied and dissociated from the other oral lesions found by the presence of epithelium. Of the 104 lesions, 96 (92.30%) presented koilocytosis. Age, gender, HPV location in the oral cavity and the histolopathological diagnosis of the lesions were not related to the presence of koilocytosis. It may be concluded that viral infection is widely disseminated in the population of this region of Brazil and that histopathological diagnosis for the detection of koilocytosis is extremely important.. The study suggests more accurate ways of determining the viral group involved with the aim of providing a greater follow-up of cases with a high risk of undergoing a malignant transformation, resulting in better prevention of oral câncer.
