SANTOS, Marconi Eduardo Souza Maciel; SILVA, Anna Rebeca de Barros Lins; FLORENCIO, Amanda Galindo  e  SILVA, Uoston Holder da. Odontoma as predictor of impacted teeth: a case report. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2010, vol.10, n.2, pp. 25-30. ISSN 1808-5210.

Odontoma is the most common type of odontogenic tumor, being defined as a benign malformation in which where the cells attain complete differentiation, reaching the stage at which all the oral tissues are represented. It is classified as complex or compound on the basis of its histomorphological features. It is usually asymptomatic and diagnosed by routine radiographic tests as it is associated with the normal eruption of a permanent tooth. The aim of the present study is to report two clinical cases of compound odontoma in which the lesion was related to the retention of permanent teeth. The usual treatment for odontomas is surgical excision and, whenever possible, the preservation of the retained teeth and promotion of conditions for their eruption.
