The Down's Syndrome is a genetic condition that is caused by the presence of an extra cromossome 21. This extra cromossome can be a result of a not-disjunction, translocation or genetic mosaic. According to the IBGE (Brazilian Geography na Estatistic Institute), 14,5% of brazilian population presents some physical or mental disabilitie. About 300 thousand peoples of this group have Down Syndrom and 8 thousand born with three samples of cromossome 21. Among the systemic issues, cardiac congenital disease occurs in about 50% of affected children in the first three months of life. The most prevalent cardiac disease in these patients are: 1- Atrioventricular complete canal defect, 2- Ventricula Septal defect, 3 - Fallot Tetrology. The Bacterian Endocarditis (BE) is a high level contamination on the endothelium surface of the heart, especially on the valves. It is a real threat for life and can be lethal if not treated. BE happens after the adherence of microorganisms on the harmed surface of the cardiac endotellium and their proliferation at the local site. The treatment of DS patients consists on the infection and dental plaque control. This is made by using antibiotic prophilaxis, an antiseptical solutions and also mechanical procedures. Consequently, as it happens in all traumatic procedures, the manipulation of the tissues takes to a transitory bacterial infection. SD patients belong to the risk group linked to the development of BE. Pre-operatory antibiotic profilaxy as a form of prevention of the transitorial bacteremia in susceptive patients is recommended by American Heart Associaton (AHA) for al dental procedures wich envolves manipulation of gingival or periapical tissues of the teeth, perforation of oral mucosa, epidermal structures only for those patients who have high risk associated conditions that may result in BE as congenital heart disease.
