Odontogenic keratocyst is a tumor whose origins are remnants of dental laminas. The treatment is based on the characteristics of the lesion. To reduce the recurrence, many techniques should be associated. The goal of this retrospective study was to evaluate different ways of odontogenic keratocyst tumor treatment and rate them against reappearance of the lesion. A retrospective review from 1998 to 2008 of the patients with odontogenic keratocyst treated at Oral Surgery Department of University Hospital of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (HUCFF/UFRJ) was performed. There were 17 odontogenic keratocyst tumor treated in the period of 10 years. Among the cases, 10 relapsed (58.8%) after primary treatment. Enucleation alone were responsible for 71.42% of the recurrence. In the second surgery the most used procedure was the enucleation followed use of Carnoy's Solution. There were 57.14% of recurrence with this technique. Five patients needed a third intervention. The reverting occurred between 1 to 2.5 years, range 2.2 . It is important to associate methods to decrease reappearance of odontogenic keratocyst tumor. In this study besides the small sample Carnoy's solution was the most used method and showed to be an effective one to bring down the reoccurrence of this lesion.
