NOGUEIRA, Emerson Filipe de Carvalho; PORTO, Gabriela Granja  e  CERQUEIRA, Paulo Roberto. Intracranial abscess of odontogenic origin: a case report. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2011, vol.11, n.3, pp. 15-20. ISSN 1808-5210.

The cerebral abscess is a rare but serious life-threatening disease. Dental infections have occasionally been reported as a source of bacteria that can lead to this clinical picture. Oral pathogens from an odontogenic infection may enter the brain via a hematologic or lymphatic route, or by direct extension through the fascial planes. The treatment of abscesses of the central nervous system (CNS) is based on three main points: clinical treatment with antibiotics, neurosurgical treatment of the abscess using a method appropriate to the case, and treatment of the primary focus of infection. The aim of this paper is to report the case of a patient with a brain abscess whose source of infection was odontogenic and which was treated with intravenous antibiotics and removal of the cause
